December wanders along the Vung Tau roads easily revealing a pale pink flower reminiscent of Cherry Blossoms blooming along the way. Few know it's the Do Mai flower, given its unfamiliar name. As Tet arrives and the dry season begins with long sunny days and the sea breeze blowing, the Do Mai flowers bloom unexpectedly on the rocky cliffs of Big Mountain and Small Mountain.

Many residents of Vung Tau are unaware that their city is home to the Do Mai flower. Growing wild, it usually sprouts on rocky mountains and blooms for a short period. Some call it Cherry Blossom, perhaps because it blooms brightly as spring arrives, with gentle hues resembling cherry blossoms.

Discovering the Charm of Do Mai in Southeast Vietnam

Dọc theo đường Trần Phú, nơi gió biển thổi ào ạt suốt ngày đêm, có một vài cây hoa Đỗ Mai nở. Nhưng hoa Đỗ Mai nở đẹp nhất và nhiều nhất ở núi Lớn và núi Nhỏ. Du khách có thể theo đường Vi Ba lên núi Lớn, ghé thăm Thiền viện Chân Không và chùa Bồ Đề, ngắm hoa nở trên mái chùa và hàng rào gỗ. Bạn cũng có thể dừng chân ở quán nước lưng chừng núi nhìn sườn núi hồng sắc hoa.

Từ đường Hạ Long rẽ vào con đường nhỏ lên Hải Đăng ngay cạnh quán cà phê để lên núi Nhỏ, bạn có thể nhìn thành phố phía sau rặng hoa và cũng có thể dừng chân tại một quán nước ven đường ngắm hoa nở dọc theo triền núi. Nếu đi xe máy, bạn có thể chạy từ Vũng Tàu tới Long Hải, Phước Hải dọc theo “đường hoa Đỗ Mai” để ngắm hoa.

Đỗ Mai có nhiều ở Vũng Tàu nhưng dọc các cung đường ở Tây Nguyên bạn cũng có thể bắt gặp. Từ trên những cánh rừng khắp Ngọc Hồi, Đăk Tô, Đăk Glei,… Đỗ Mai bừng tỉnh sau giấc ngủ đông, trải dài trong màu hoa, ngập tràn sắc xuân. Hoa Đỗ Mai phủ kín đỉnh núi, lượn quanh những dốc đồi, tràn xuống thung lũng,… Màu hồng xao xuyến khiến người du khách ngẩn ngơ, dừng bước chân say mê ngắm, và rồi lặng thinh như màu hoa đã chạm vào kí ức xa xôi, sâu thăm thẳm. Có điều gì đó như bâng khuâng, tiếc nuối, nhớ thương mối tình đầu ngây thơ, đẹp đẽ, giờ chỉ vương chút kỉ niệm mơ hồ…

Nếu bạn có dịp lên phố núi vào những ngày đầu xuân, đừng bỏ lỡ dịp ngắm hoa Đỗ Mai đang mùa rộ nở. Hoa Đỗ Mai vốn là sắc hoa của núi rừng, trước đây mọc tràn ngập trên những vùng núi xa, nhưng gần đây đã được người ta đem vè trồng quanh nhà, vừa làm hàng rào vì lá xanh mát quanh năm, đến gần tết lại có hoa đẹp để thưởng ngắm. Chỉ ngay trong thành phố Kon Tum nhỏ xinh thôi, hoa Đỗ Mai đã nở dọc bờ kè sông Đăk Bla, trên đường Bắc Kạn, xung quanh những ngôi làng Kon Klor, Plei Tơ Nghĩa, làng hoa Phương Nghĩa,… thấp thoáng cùng những mái nhà sàn màu nâu, sắc hoa hồng điểm tô một mùa xuân yên vui. Đỗ mai có mùi thơm rất nhẹ và kín đáo, phải chú ý lắm bạn mới có thể nhận thấy, bởi vậy những ngày hoa nở là lúc ong bướm tìm về, rập rợn vây quanh. Càng nắng gió khắc nghiệt, Đỗ Mai càng vươn lên mạnh mẽ, những ngày mùa khô, đất đai khô hạn, Đỗ Mai lại càng khoe sắc lung linh. Từng cánh Đỗ Mai mỏng manh, tưởng như chỉ một làn gió thoảng có thể làm rơi rụng hết, thế mà sức sống lại mãnh liệt vô cùng.
