For countless generations, the Cơ Tu ethnic minority has played a significant role in the multifaceted development of Quang Nam province. In an endeavor to preserve the precious cultural values of the Cơ Tu people and introduce them to both local and international tourists, Quang Nam province initiated a project to establish the Cơ Tu traditional village.

Presently, the Cơ Tu traditional craft village serves as a dedicated living, working, and cultural space for the Cơ Tu community. It opens its doors to visitors seeking to explore and has become a fresh attraction for Hoi An tourism, contributing to the diverse journey of travelers in this region.
The pathway to the Cơ Tu village, where various cultural facets are waiting to be discovered, leads through the Đho Roong hamlet, Tà Lu commune, Đông Giang district, Quang Nam province. Covering a vast area of 10.5 hectares, the village entrance crosses the Ma Tua stream, maintaining its pristine charm. Behind the village gate and along the winding, uphill path, one can catch glimpses of Gươl houses and traditional stilt houses, adding to the allure, especially with young women in handmade traditional dresses.
Preserving Traditional Weaving and Basketry of the Cơ Tu People
In the past, Cơ Tu girls only knew how to work in the fields, occasionally weaving and crafting items for themselves in their spare time. Now, they have transformed into skilled weavers and basket-makers, creating fabrics and tools within their households to gift or sell to tourists.
When foreign visitors come to live and eat with the villagers, the locals hold them in high esteem. They not only find joy in welcoming guests but also take pride in performing and guiding visitors through traditional dances, sharing the cultural activities of the Cơ Tu people.
Savoring the Cuisine of the Cơ Tu Community
After the exploration journey, wandering around the village, crossing streams, and trekking through the forest, enjoy a well-prepared lunch with a variety of specialties beautifully presented amid the genuine smiles of the Cơ Tu villagers. Here, visitors can relish dishes like stir-fried bamboo shoots, forest vegetables, braised chicken, stream fish, free-range pork, all served with sticky rice from large, round, and sticky grains cultivated in the fields behind the village, cooked in bamboo tubes. Additionally, you can taste a bit of mildly bitter Tà Vạt wine, a tingling sensation on the tongue, made from the water collected by the Cơ Tu people during their forest expeditions, accompanied by a dish of zơrá. This mountainous delicacy leaves visitors with a delightful feeling.
Celebrate the New Rice Festival in September
The entire village compound fully embodies the distinctive features of daily life as well as the beauty of the cultural and spiritual life of the Cơ Tu ethnic community. This includes traditional customs and annual festivals, among which the celebration of the new rice festival in September cannot be overlooked.

The festival celebrating the new rice is one of the unique and remarkable cultural activities, deeply rooted in tradition, of the Cơ Tu people in the districts of Đông Giang, Nam Giang, and Tây Giang. With the meaning of giving thanks to the deities for a bountiful harvest season, favorable weather, and seeking blessings for a healthy and prosperous new year, the festival is an occasion for the villagers to gather, offer prayers, and share the joy of a successful harvest.

The diligent efforts in constructing and developing the traditional Co Tu village have earned numerous praises and encouragement, along with the collaboration of local residents. The Co Tu traditional village promises to be a captivating destination in the journey of Hoi An tourism in Quang Nam. It warmly welcomes visitors from near and far, aspiring to contribute to spreading the rich cultural heritage of the Co Tu people throughout the country.
