Wireless Distribution System, also known as WDS, allows you to create a network of Access Points without using wires.
Devices connect wirelessly. WDS devices can function as either a WDS Relay or a WDS Remote. The biggest difference between WDS Relay and WDS Remote lies in the function of each device.
A WDS Remote operates like an access point where wireless clients can connect. WDS Remote communicates with the root station and exchanges information. Whereas, WDS Relay acts solely as an intermediary between two access points. This is the difference between WDS Relay and WDS Remote that you can observe when using these standards.
The primary purpose of WDS Relay is to extend the range for WDS Remotes to reach further from the root station. This way, you have more options in placing WDS Remote devices to achieve optimal coverage. You can even use daisy chain repeater to extend the range further.
Consider the bandwidth limitations on each device placed between the client and the root station. Bandwidth is used to describe the maximum amount of data allowed to be exchanged between a website (or server) and users within a unit of time (usually a month).
