Hands-on with the sleek design of Galaxy Z Fold 5, featuring a more seamless folding hinge than its predecessor
The design language of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 remains largely consistent with its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 4. However, Samsung has subtly refined some details in the product's design. Specifically, Samsung has reduced the thickness of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 when folded and unfolded (13.4 mm when folded, 6.1 mm when open). Compared to the previous generation (14 mm when folded, 6.3 mm when open), the Galaxy Z Fold 5 boasts an impressive slimness. As a result, the hands-on experience with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 becomes comfortable and enjoyable.

Another intriguing aspect is that the hinge of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 has been made much sleeker compared to the previous generation. Specifically, the hinge of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 had a thickness of 15.8 mm, whereas this number is reduced to only 2.4 mm on the Z Fold 5. Samsung achieved this by refining the hinge internally to make the folding mechanism more compact while retaining the familiar flexible folding mechanism. This contributes to a tidy, elegant appearance of the product and significantly reduces the ingress of dust.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 still utilizes the slightly square-shaped Armor Aluminum frame and is finished in a glossy texture. The back of the phone is still coated with a matte toughened glass layer designed to protect the product from unwanted external impacts and minimize issues with sweat and fingerprint smudges.

This year, the camera cluster of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is designed similarly to the previous generation but has undergone a subtle adjustment in the position of the LED flash. Specifically, the LED flash that was located below the three lenses on the Z Fold 4 has been moved to the side on the Z Fold 5. This gives the camera cluster of the new foldable smartphone a neater and more streamlined look.

Additionally, Samsung introduces a new Icy Blue color variant for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 alongside the familiar Black and White options. This new Blue shade adds a youthful and attractive touch to the device, making it stand out compared to its predecessor.

The connectivity ports and physical buttons of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 are arranged in similar positions to its predecessor generations. Therefore, users can quickly familiarize themselves and use the device with ease.

The secondary display of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 maintains a familiar 6.2-inch size, HD+ resolution, Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel, and a variable refresh rate ranging from 48 to 120 Hz. These specifications ensure users an impressive display experience with clear, sharp images, true-to-life colors, and smooth touch gestures.

Meanwhile, the main display of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 retains its captivating design with an under-display camera and evenly thin bezels all around.

In terms of specifications, the Galaxy Z Fold 5's inner display measures 7.6 inches, operates on a Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a variable refresh rate of 1-120 Hz. Notably, this display also boasts a maximum brightness of 1,750 nits. With these parameters, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 delivers a captivating display experience with clear image quality in all lighting conditions.

- Inner Display: 7.6 inches, Dynamic AMOLED 2X, variable refresh rate 1 Hz - 120 Hz, maximum brightness 1,750 nits.

Similar to the Galaxy S23 series introduced in early 2023, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy processor. Essentially, this processor is not significantly different from the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 as it is still built on TSMC's 4nm process. Paired with the latest generation of the Adreno GPU architecture developed by Qualcomm, it delivers a 25% performance improvement and 45% better energy efficiency compared to the previous version. A notable feature of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy is that this chip is specifically optimized for Samsung's flagship models. Therefore, the Z Fold 5 promises to deliver powerful performance with optimal temperature control.

In addition, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is equipped with 12 GB of RAM for smooth multitasking. Furthermore, this phone also features internal storage of up to 1 TB, providing users with ample space to store high-quality apps, photos, and videos.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is equipped with a 4,400 mAh battery, similar to its predecessor. However, the product still promises long-lasting usage thanks to optimized power consumption from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy processor. I will provide a detailed review of the Z Fold 5 battery in the near future, so stay tuned on 24h Technology page!
Galaxy Z Fold 5's 50 MP camera delivers stunning photos
In addition to the above aspects, Samsung also focuses on the photography capabilities of the Z Fold 5. Specifically, the camera cluster of the device has the following specifications:
- Main wide-angle camera: 50 MP resolution, Optical Image Stabilization (OIS).
- Ultra-wide-angle camera: 12 MP resolution.
- Telephoto camera: 10 MP resolution, 3X Zoom.
- Front-facing selfie camera: 10 MP resolution.
- Hidden selfie camera: 4 MP resolution.

The camera system specifications of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 do not differ much from the previous generation, except for the telephoto camera, which has reduced by 2 MP compared to the 12 MP on the Galaxy Z Fold 4. However, Samsung is renowned for optimizing processing algorithms very well for Galaxy phones. Therefore, I believe that the photos taken by the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will leave users satisfied with clear details and captivating colors.
How much is the Galaxy Z Fold 5?
