Honkai: Star Rail marks MiHoYo's newest gaming venture, set to make waves in 2023.
1. Honkai: Star Rail introduces a cast of familiar faces in an all-new storyline
Honkai: Star Rail introduces a diverse lineup of characters from the Honkai Impact 3rd universe. While their names and appearances may be familiar, their stories take on a whole new dimension.
One of the most recognizable characters is Himeko, who takes center stage from the beginning. In Star Rail, she portrays a daring scientist-adventurer who stumbles upon a stranded train. With the train stuck in her world, Himeko takes charge, repairing it and embarking on a cosmic journey of exploration.
Other beloved characters returning from the Honkai universe include Bronya, Seele, and Welt. Their comeback brings a mix of familiarity and excitement to players. Additionally, the game introduces fresh faces like Danheng, March 7th, and Gepard.
2. Versatile Turn-based Gameplay
Unlike its universe counterparts, Honkai: Star Rail offers a turn-based tactical experience. A team consisting of 4 characters engage in turn-based combat, utilizing skills. Battles commence upon player encounters with enemies in the open world. Players can execute a preemptive strike in the open world, gaining an advantage as the battle initiates.
In the game, each character is associated with an element and a distinct role, giving rise to a system of counters and vulnerabilities against different enemies. Characters possess regular attacks, ultimate skills, and combat techniques. Additionally, they have talents and a secret technique. This secret technique provides minor advantages such as supporting teammates, reducing opponent stats, or attacking multiple targets.
During battles, there's an important stat to remember - the skill points. Skill points accumulate through regular attacks and being attacked, then deplete when players use ultimate skills. Hence, players need to consider their usage carefully.
3. Characters Divided into 7 Elements and 7 Different Destinies
Honkai: Star Rail doesn't categorize characters by weapon classes but instead by elements and different destinies. In the current game, characters are divided into 7 elemental affinities and 7 fundamental destinies.
The seven main elements will include physical, fire, lightning, ice, wind, quantum, and imaginary numbers. As for their destiny roles, characters will have destiny names that sound 'ominous', but fundamentally, they will play roles in their game, from dealing primary damage, single-target damage, AoE damage, support, defense, or healing.
4. Expansive Super Dungeons
Honkai: Star Rail is designed for players to explore vast dungeons. Indeed, players will constantly have to explore extremely spacious dungeons designed in different styles.
While exploring dungeons, players will constantly encounter enemies. Besides, there will be small puzzles for players to solve. According to many testers, these puzzles will be quite similar to what is designed in Genshin Impact. This will make many players excited.
5. Familiar Elements from Both Genshin Impact and Honkai Impact 3
As the 'successor' of both games by miHoYo, it's not difficult to recognize that Honkai: Star Rail has embedded many quintessential elements from both. Small items like Exploration Diaries, Diluted Aether, Concentrated Aether, or Credit Points will immediately remind players of Mora or Exploration Experience in Genshin Impact. Even Starlight Ore is exactly the same as Primogems in this game.
Summoning characters in Honkai: Star Rail works similarly to Genshin Impact. The summoning rates are also almost identical to the older game. However, we still don't know how the insurance mechanism - a crucial factor in gacha games - will be implemented in Star Rail.
