III. Exemplary Social Discourse Essay on Silence in Life (Standard)
Have you ever felt like life is at a standstill? Have you ever felt like the world has turned its back on you? What do you usually do in those moments? Lock yourself in your room, choose to escape, or dive headfirst into work? We all go through days like that. And what we need most then is to give ourselves some silence - to calmly reassess everything that has passed.
When I was young and heard my parents talk about the silence in life, I always dreamed vaguely about what that meant. Growing up, curiosity drove me to explore it. So what is silence? It's the moment when a person allows themselves to fall into a state of not thinking, not worrying about anything. It's when our souls want to rest, to sit quietly and listen to the beat of our hearts. It's a period not long, not short but enough for us to look back on what has passed, things in the past, or suddenly think about tomorrow. Silence sometimes is simply rewarding ourselves a day without worrying about troubles out there. Nothing grand, after all, silence is when we allow ourselves to forget the real world.
I've often wondered why, as society advances, people need silence more? Perhaps, the journey to find the answer will be very difficult for a high school student like me. Society progresses, the age of technology develops, people are drawn into work, the whirlwind of life. Racing against time, against the flow of society, people gradually turn themselves into machines. They keep working, keep making money. Adults bear the pressure from work, then when they come home, they have the burden of food, clothing, money, and family from within and without. Many things surround them. What should they do in those moments? The most necessary thing is to stop everything, give themselves some silence to calm down, recharge, and then continue the fight.
Or in love, after many heartbreaks, people tend to close themselves off, hesitant to open up to the next person. Some even lose faith in love, they hate romantic matters, they think everyone is like those in the past. At that time what they need is a period long enough to think, to look and accept what has happened. At the same time, give themselves and others a chance.
And especially in our youth, we need silence more than ever. You must have heard of the tragic death of SHINee's member Jonghyun. He died of depression, or perhaps because he couldn't bear the pressures of life anymore. Every day he pushed himself to endure everything until one day he couldn't take it anymore, he chose death to escape it all. If only then he had given himself a short time to think, to find peace in his soul, perhaps that heartbreaking event wouldn't have happened. Modern people are often rushed, forgetting themselves. They gradually fall into a state of imbalance, losing control. In those times, what they need is silence to reassess everything...
Amidst the hustle and bustle of life, everyone longs for a moment to retreat into their own world. Sometimes after work, you just want to collapse on your beloved bed, temporarily set aside the exhaustion outside, but realize you still have family, then you have to get up and try again. Every human has a certain limit of endurance, reaching a point where they can't go on anymore. At that time, don't try anymore, just stop. Life needs commas before reaching the final period.
As for myself, during the high school years, perhaps the most pressure was exams, studying. Under pressure from my parents, there were times when I felt truly stuck. But then I thought more positively, I asked my parents to allow me a few days to relax. I spent three days thinking about dreams, passions, about what I would gain and lose if I succeeded or failed. I outlined a more stable plan for myself, with less pressure, reminding myself to always keep my mind comfortable. And every time like that, I found myself much better, no longer as pessimistic as before. In fact, each of us always needs a moment of silence for soul rejuvenation, for the body.
Silence - what we are seeking. If every day of yours is exhausting, stop everything, choose a corner for yourself, stabilize everything. This life needs silence so much, just like in the midst of the disgraceful prison in Nguyen Tuân's story 'The death-row inmate' there still exists a Prison Supervisor with pure conscience. If life is a chaotic piece of music, with many high notes, then silence is the deep, soothing notes, helping us balance life.
