Da Nang tourism: Discovering the pristine Nam O reef
Located approximately 17km northwest of Da Nang city center, Nam O reef is considered a perfect new spot for outdoor enthusiasts.
Starting from the city center, along Nguyen Luong Bang street, past the Xuan Thieu beach towards the winding path of the fishing village, you'll be greeted with a tranquil stretch of white sandy beach by the sea.
It's truly fascinating to feel the soft sand beneath your bare feet and immerse yourself in the crystal-clear seawater. From the sandy beach, a leisurely stroll of a few hundred meters will lead you to a spacious rocky area lying at the foot of the mountain, adorned with thousands of slate and coral pieces.
Adjacent to these are large flat rocks – where one can recline and admire the serene sky, observing each fishing boat drifting further away.
Most notably, there's a stretch of rocky coast with stacked, rugged rocks, some several meters deep, with a high peak towering above the water's surface, forming a long reef extending into the sea.
Many adventurous tourists follow the rocky cliffs to admire the mountainous scenery by the sea and enjoy peaceful moments on the rocks, where local residents and professional fishermen from nearby areas come to fish and gather shellfish.
According to local residents, Nam O reef is an ideal fishing ground for both Nam O fishermen and fishermen from neighboring districts and counties. It's a seasonal habitat for many types of fish, especially anchovies, mackerel, and mullet, which locals catch and use to produce the traditional fish sauce of Nam O.
Standing on these large rocks, overlooking the vast ocean, one can glimpse the distant Son Tra island to the east, while turning westward reveals the Hai Van Pass shrouded in mountain clouds.
When visiting Nam O reef, adventurous travelers can also explore the traditional craft village of Nam O fish sauce or Xuân Thiều beach...
A few years ago, Nam O reef was still very wild, but recently it has become an attractive tourist spot for everyone, from those who prefer tranquility to the adventurous.
