Samsung's diagnostic software also fails to identify this counterfeit SSD.

The Samsung 980 Pro SSD, despite being nearly 3 years old, remains one of the best SSDs available today and is much more affordable than its successors. Consequently, it is one of the most popular SSDs and also the most counterfeited on the market.
Recently, on the Baidu Tieba forum, a post was shared about a user being tricked into buying a counterfeit Samsung 980 Pro SSD on Xianyu, Taobao's second-hand marketplace, for about $127.
According to this user, the counterfeit Samsung 980 Pro SSD is crafted with great precision, labeled as a genuine Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, and even has pre-loaded firmware. Moreover, this fake drive manages to deceive Samsung's official SSD diagnostic software - Samsung Magician.

Users can only identify the product as counterfeit by removing the outer label. Inside, it's a blend of various other brands, including the Maxio MAP1602A PCle 4.0 SSD controller, the same as the Acer Predator GM7 SSD, manufactured on TSMC's 12nm process, with no DRAM, and YMTC-produced 128-layer 3D TLC NAND chips.
As for the genuine Samsung 980 Pro, it's equipped with the 8nm Elpis controller accompanied by DRAM. Samsung typically utilizes controllers and NAND chips produced in-house for their SSDs.
Clearly, counterfeit Samsung 980 Pro significantly underperforms compared to the genuine version. Specifically, counterfeit Samsung 980 Pro has sequential read and write speeds of only 4.8 Gbps and 4.5 Gbps, whereas the genuine drive can achieve up to 7 Gbps and 5 Gbps.
