Regarding the recent shortage of supplies at supermarkets and stores, Mr. Vu attributed it to companies incorrectly predicting market demand, resulting in passive inventory management plans.
'Typically, clothes dryers sell well around December and January each year, followed by a gradual decrease in demand. However, this year, cold rainy weather in February extended the buying spree beyond expectations in the northern region,' Mr. Vu stated.
Additionally, the early-year market also witnessed a trend of consumers willing to spend more on dryers. Most notably, dryers with heat pump technology priced below $20 million are increasingly sought after.
'If the supply is sufficient, Samsung or LG heat pump dryer models may outsell even cheaper models priced below $9 million,' Mr. Ngoc Le remarked.
The most popular product lines mostly feature drying capacities of 8-9 kg, equivalent to common washing machine models today. Electrolux, Beko, Samsung, and LG are all offering models in this price range with two popular technologies: steam drying and condenser drying. The main difference lies in steam drying requiring a separate water outlet, while condenser drying offers the additional option of an internal water tray for more versatile placement.
Meanwhile, clothes dryers are favored for their affordability, combining clothes storage cabinets for small apartments or renters. Since 2021, clothes dryer models have seen many improvements in design, functionality, and can be neatly folded after use.
In addition to standalone dryers, washing machines with drying functionality are also being considered by many due to their convenience, space-saving nature, and lower cost. However, according to Mr. Ngoc Le, users are increasingly opting for standalone dryers due to their higher drying capacity.
'Washer-dryer combos typically have a drying capacity of 5-6 kg, which is somewhat insufficient for the needs in Vietnam, especially during the cold season with bulky and numerous clothes. Such types of machines are more suitable for singles or small families,' he said.
