Facebook has updated an old blog post from 2017, stating that it is reducing rankings of links to low-quality websites on News Feed. They are committed to minimizing links on News Feed to copied websites and republished content from other sites.
A supplementary part of the old post reads:
'Starting today, we will implement updates to reduce the visibility of posts linking to low-quality websites that primarily duplicate and republish content from other sites without providing significant added value to users. We are adjusting Publisher Principles for relevance.'
Facebook diminishes rankings of links to low-quality websites on News Feed
Discussing the identification of these websites, Facebook confirms they will compare the text of that website with others. If a website also uses clickbait headlines (utilizing eye-catching thumbnails or sensational headlines to attract users) or landing pages containing low-quality ads, Facebook will automatically lower the ranking of links to that website on News Feed. In this way, Facebook hopes to reduce the number of users accessing the website, thereby preventing other websites from doing the same.
