Users aren't the only ones dissatisfied with Facebook's direction for WhatsApp. Both co-founders, Brian Acton and Jan Koum, left the company in 2017 and 2018, respectively. Specifically, a report suggests that Koum departed due to Facebook's intention to weaken encryption for advertising purposes. Since then, Facebook has often emphasized privacy, indicating that the company may be exploring better ways to monetize the service.
