Last week, Facebook unveiled an expanded partnership with the online music streaming service Spotify through Project Boombox, bringing a new way to enjoy music or podcasts directly within the Facebook app. The latest mini player is part of this project.
The mini player itself is an extension of the sharing option already supported in the Spotify app. Now, when Spotify users are listening to content they want to share on Facebook, they can tap the three-dot icon in the upper-right corner of the screen to open the Share menu and select Facebook or Facebook News Feed.

When users share a song or podcast on Facebook through this sharing feature, the content will appear in a new mini player, allowing others to view and play or reshare the content.
The company notes that Spotify Premium subscribers will enjoy the full content playback experience. Meanwhile, free users will be able to listen to the shared songs in their entirety with occasional ads.
An important point to note here is how the mini player operates. Integration enables music or podcasts to play directly from within the Spotify app. When users press the Play button on the mini player, the transition process occurs, allowing users to log in to Spotify. The mini player activates and controls the playback, streaming content within the Spotify app – ensuring the content continues playing even as users scroll through Facebook or minimize the entire Facebook app.
This setup means users will need to install the Spotify app for mobile devices on their phones and log in to their Spotify accounts for the mini player to function. For first-time Spotify users, they'll need to sign up for an account to listen to shared music via the mini player.
