Recognizing the growing demand for teleconferencing and online meetings last year, Facebook expanded support for various services across most of its Portal devices, such as Zoom, WebEx, and GoToMeeting. Recently, the company announced that Zoom and GoToMeeting will also be available on Portal TV.
The original Portal device was released in 2018 as a smart display under the Facebook brand, enabling users to make video calls and interact with friends and family using the webcam and screen. Portal TV emerged in 2019 as an upgraded version, maintaining the webcam but connecting to the TV via HDMI cable to utilize the TV screen for video calls.
Zoom, GoToMeeting, as well as BlueJeans and Webex, are now available on Facebook's compact Portal devices, including Portal Standard, Portal Mini, and Portal Plus. The addition of support for these teleconferencing platforms to Portal TV significantly enhances its utility, especially in the context of remote work due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
GoToMeeting was announced for Portal TV earlier this year, but Zoom support is considered a more significant addition given the absolute popularity of the service. Zoom can leverage all the smart features that Portal devices offer, such as Smart Sound to enhance users' voices and minimize ambient noise, as well as Smart Camera to ensure users remain in frame as they move around.
Portal also supports Facebook's video chat platforms, including Messenger, Messenger Rooms, and WhatsApp, in addition to incorporating some other useful features like built-in Alexa integration. Explore more about the device on the Facebook website.
