As such, on the Messenger app, users can input simple commands to add custom notifications for messages, GIFs, and even the shrug emoji OG ( ̄_ (ツ) _ / ̄).
Facebook Messenger introduces new Slack-like shortcuts
The first 2 shortcuts now available on Messenger for Android and iOS are @everyone and /silent. The new @everyone shortcut allows users to notify all chat members without mentioning them.
You can update or download the latest version of Facebook Messenger here to use these features:
- Download Facebook Messenger for Android
- Download Facebook Messenger for iPhone
On the flip side, the /silent shortcut will send 'non-urgent' messages to recipients without displaying a pop-up notification window. This helps avoid disrupting others' work or sleep routines. Additionally, this shortcut was already available on Instagram DM, but under a different name, ''@silent'.
- Apart from Facebook Messenger, you can also use Zalo to send messages, make free video calls to friends and family, and use similar features as on Facebook Messenger.:
In addition to the existing shortcuts @everyone and /silent, the Meta-owned company also confirms it will add more shortcuts for users in the future.
These include the /Pay shortcut, allowing users to easily send and receive money in direct Messenger chats (only available for users in the US). The /gif shortcut for easy GIF image search and sending. However, these shortcuts will initially be available only for iOS users.
Furthermore, Messenger for iOS will soon support shortcuts /shrug and /tableflip to convey text-based emoticons more easily.
