In a note, David Marcus wrote:
“In the past two years, we've built and developed distinct features for Messenger. While racing to introduce new features, the app has become increasingly cluttered. We aim to simplify and streamline Messenger this year.”
Facebook will not attempt to turn Messenger into Messenger Lite. Instead, Marcus asserts that everything will become more visually intuitive:
“In 2018, users can anticipate ultra-fast camera, video, images, GIFs, and stickers in most conversations. Even in workplace chats with a more serious tone. It's not just Messenger; we're aiming for other apps too.”
Facebook believes that both customers and businesses want to connect more easily through Facebook Messenger. While no specific actions are outlined in the blog post, Marcus mentions that global and small brands alike are embracing their Messenger platform.
