As of March 31, 2019, Facebook currently has around 2.38 billion monthly active users.
Warning about the increasing number of fake Facebook accounts, Alex Schultz, Vice President of Data Analytics at Facebook, stated:
'The number of fake accounts cannot articulate the true intentions and risks of the mastermind behind. If an attacker attempts to execute a mass attack by creating a multitude of fake Facebook accounts, even though these accounts will be promptly deleted, over a hundred million of these fake accounts have been active during that time period.'
In addition, Schultz emphasizes the prevalence - the frequency of content violating Facebook's standards - as a useful metric.
Guy Rosen, Facebook's Vice President of Integrity, stated: 'While actions speak to what we've removed, the prevalence of fake accounts reflects what we've identified, and people can still see.'
Concerning fake accounts, Facebook estimates around 5% of accounts are active each month, equivalent to approximately 119 million accounts being fake.
In addition, the company shares data related to 'inappropriate' images and content. An estimate suggests that for every 10,000 content views, there are approximately 11 to 14 views of documents violating Facebook's inappropriate content policies. Furthermore, for every 10,000 views, about 25 instances of content violating violence and graphic content policies are observed.
Figures related to terrorism and child sexual abuse are relatively low. An estimate suggests that for every 10,000 content views, fewer than 3 views of characteristic policy-violating documents occur.
