Facebook simplifies security settings for Groups

To facilitate users in easily finding Groups and viewing members as well as posts, Facebook is simplifying security settings for Groups. Previously, group creators could set groups as public, closed, or secret. Now, they can only choose between public or private groups.

In private groups, only members can view other members and posts. However, if admins want, they can change group settings to make it 'public' or 'hidden' for others to discover and join.

Additionally, Facebook's Community Standards apply to both public and private groups. Hence, Facebook can still monitor harmful, inappropriate content on the platform.

At the recent F8 developer conference, Mark Zuckerberg emphasized the significance of private groups in Facebook's strategy. These new changes seem to be a stepping stone, setting the momentum for future strategies. Unfortunately, these updates don't seem to address the issue of criminal groups spreading hatred on Facebook.
