The new capability was first revealed in September as Facebook introduced cross-platform messaging for Messenger and Instagram. It is designed to allow you to send disappearing messages, images, emojis, and stickers that vanish when the recipient views them or when you close the chat window.
Users are about to experience the use of Vanish Mode for disappearing messages on Facebook.
To enable the Vanish Mode, simply swipe up on the screen in the current chat. You can also swipe up again to return to the regular chat experience.
This feature works exclusively with people you are connected to, providing the option to choose whether you want to message someone in Vanish Mode or not. Additionally, you will receive a notification if the recipient takes a screenshot of your temporary chat. It also supports options to block or report a conversation.
The latest release debuts a week after WhatsApp outlined the workings of their temporary chat feature upon its full-scale deployment. Currently, Vanish Mode is exclusively available for Messenger users in the U.S. and select territories, with plans to expand to other markets in the future. It will also soon arrive on Instagram in the U.S., although you'll need to switch to the Messenger's cross-platform experience to use that feature.
