FBI: Cyberattack on Vietnamese Game Axie Infinity Results in Over $600 Million Loss, Blamed on North Korean Hackers
The United States Department of the Treasury and the U.S. Financial Crimes Enforcement Network have issued sanctions against cryptocurrency wallets associated with the RON sidechain hack of the popular game Axie Infinity. According to Chainalysis, the Lazarus Group conducted numerous similar attacks in 2021, absconding with approximately $400 million worth of virtual currency. In response, Binance has allocated an additional $150 million to Sky Mavis, the Vietnamese game developer, to facilitate the reimbursement of virtual currency to players, thereby reinforcing community trust in this blockchain gaming platform.
