Firefox 109 supports Manifest V3 extensions
Additionally, while Manifest V3 has been implemented in Firefox 109, Mozilla currently has no plans to immediately stop supporting Manifest V2. This decision comes as Google and Microsoft have recently decided to extend support for Manifest V2, giving developers more time before transitioning to Manifest V3.
As per the release notes:
New features:
- Support for Manifest Version 3 (MV3) extensions is now activated by default (MV2 is still supported/activated). This major update also brings interesting changes to the user interface in the form of new extension buttons.
- Arbitrary Code Guard exploit protection is activated in multimedia player processes, enhancing security for Windows users.
Other changes:
- Starting from January 16th, Colorways will no longer be supported on Firefox. Users can still access saved and active Colorways from the Add-ons and themes menu option.
- On macOS, the Ctrl or Cmd + trackpad or mouse scroll combination is used for scrolling instead of zooming as before. This is to avoid accidental zooming and align with the behavior of other web browsers on macOS.
- The Recently Closed section on Firefox View has additional options allowing users to manually close/remove URL links from the list.
- Empty status notifications and graphical elements in Firefox View in Tab Pickup and Recently Closed sections are updated to enhance user experience.
Furthermore, using too many extensions or add-ons in Firefox can consume more RAM and computer resources. Therefore, you should consider enabling/disabling extensions in the Firefox browser for optimal performance.
