According to Mozilla's announcement, Firefox 47 brings numerous new features that are sure to enhance user experience. One of the many intriguing features in the new version of the Firefox browser is the synchronization of open tabs between mobile and desktop.
Another feature that many users find appealing is the ability to easily play HTML5 YouTube videos without the need for flash.
Firefox 47 – The Incredibly Handy Tab Sync Feature
As mentioned, the tab sync feature between Firefox desktop and Firefox mobile is quite handy as it allows you to use the same tabs simultaneously on your mobile device or computer. This means even when you can't access Firefox on your computer, you can still continue using the tabs open on Firefox desktop right from your mobile device.
To use the Synced Tabs feature, follow the instructions below provided by Mytour.
Firstly, you need to download the latest Firefox 47 versions.
Get Firefox on your computer.
- Download Firefox 47 32-bit
- Download Firefox 47 64-bit
Get Firefox on mobile. Download Firefox 47 for Android
Step 1: To sync, you'll need a Firefox account to facilitate data synchronization. As soon as you launch the new Firefox version on mobile, the browser will prompt you to either log in to this account or create a new one.
Firstly, to sync tabs between Firefox 47 on mobile and desktop, you need to enable automatic sync in the settings of your Android phone.
Access Settings -> Choose Accounts -> tap on the three dots to set up Automatic Data Sync.
Step 2: Once you've set up automatic data synchronization, select the Firefox software icon to initiate the synchronization process.
You need to press Configure Sync to open Firefox's main synchronization interface.
Step 3: Press Sync now to initiate the synchronization process.
Note that you must have enabled the Automatic Sync option as mentioned in step 1 beforehand.
Step 4: After the synchronization process on Firefox for Android, go to Firefox on desktop, click on the custom options at the 'three horizontal bars' icon -> select Synced Tabs.
Step 5: Here, Firefox offers the option to display the Synced Tabs Sidebar on the right side of Firefox. Select here to activate the Sidebar.
However, the Sidebar does not show any synced tabs as you have not initiated the synchronization process with the mobile version yet.
Step 6: Press Sync Now to continue synchronizing data between your computer and mobile device.
After synchronization, the result will show tabs opened on Firefox mobile.
Note: To synchronize data, you must enable the Auto Sync feature on your Android phone. This may consume network data and device battery.
Furthermore, the synchronization process on Firefox encounters a major inconvenience as the browser does not have a built-in sync button. Users will need to synchronize by accessing the Sync section in Settings on their Android phone.
Other features of Firefox 47 mentioned above include the ability to play HTML5 standard videos even when your computer does not have Flash installed. This advantage is primarily achieved through the integration of the open-source VP9 video codec. Previously, to watch videos on the Firefox browser, users needed to download and install additional video viewing software like Adobe Flash Player. However, with Firefox version 47, you no longer need to install Adobe Flash Player anymore, isn't that fantastic?
