Tracking Protection is a feature in Mozilla Firefox that prevents the browser from loading scripts from abusive trackers. This feature was initially introduced in private browsing mode on Firefox, starting from Firefox 57 released in November last year. Users can activate the feature for regular web browsing at any time.
It's noteworthy that Tracking Protection is not enabled by default. To activate this feature for regular web browsing, users need to go to Settings => Privacy on the browser and toggle the option to ON/OFF.
Due to being buried deep within a variety of browser settings, very few users are aware of the existence of the Tracking Protection feature.
In an effort to introduce this feature to users, Mozilla engineers are deploying changes to the Firefox user interface, allowing anyone to activate Tracking Protection at any time across various sections of the Firefox user interface.
As part of this, the Firefox user interface includes a dropdown menu displaying HTTPS information or an activated dropdown menu located at the top right corner of the browser window.
Firefox 63 Safeguards, Blocks Illegitimate Cryptocurrency Mining
Alongside the new changes to the user interface, Firefox developers have enhanced and deployed capabilities for the browser. In addition to accessing Settings => Privacy to activate the Tracking Protection feature, users can also choose to activate other anti-tracking features.
Firefox 63 improves Tracking Protection, blocking illicit cryptocurrency mining
The Tracking Protection feature primarily blocks advertising scripts, analyzes, and shares social network connections. However, on Firefox 63, Tracking Protection is further supplemented with support to block fingerprinting scripts in user accounts and cryptocurrency mining scripts such as Bitcoin mining, illegally on the browser (also known as cryptojacking).
In an interview with Bleeping Computer back in March, Mozilla revealed that the cryptocurrency mining protection feature would soon be added to the browser.
Easier Cookie Deletion
Last but certainly not least, Mozilla engineers have streamlined the cookie deletion process in the browser. Since Firefox 63, users can delete cookies and web browsing data directly from the security control panel, displayed whenever clicking on the information icon / padlock icon in the address bar.
The Clear Cookies and Site Data... button now appears at the end of the security control panel, a panel used to display SSL certificate information.
Users eager to preview upcoming user interface changes can install and use Firefox Nightly.
Although it has been released for almost a year, many devices are still awaiting updates to Android Oreo, the latest operating system. After months of anticipation, Nvidia has finally started rolling out the Android Oreo update for Shield TV to provide a better experience with the new features that come with this operating system.
