Until now, Firefox users on Android could only install curated extensions directly from the browser's Add-ons Manager. This caused some confusion for users accustomed to the installation process on desktop. By allowing installations from AMO, users will be able to navigate to AMO web pages through links shared by friends or access them directly and easily install extensions from there.
New installation buttons will be added to the AMO website on January 21 as part of the scheduled website update process conducted by the company. If you're using a previous release of Firefox 85, you'll be able to use these installation buttons starting today.
The refreshed Firefox Web browser for Android was launched on the stable channel in August last year, but despite undergoing a makeover, metrics show that Firefox is still struggling in the mobile market. In July 2020, when the final version of the old Firefox browser was released, Firefox only held a 0.48% mobile market share. As of December 2020, this number had only increased to 0.51%.
