According to Mozilla's report, the new feature to block social media tracking falls under the category named 'Social media trackers' and is activated by default. However, Firefox will not be overly aggressive in blocking all trackers to avoid disrupting the functionality of websites.
Additionally, there's a possibility that the browser's Content Blocking feature will be renamed to Enhanced Tracking Protection as shown in the screenshot below.
Initially, the feature protecting against social media tracking will block trackers on domains related to listed websites or social networks, including some popular ones like: Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, or Youtube
To view blocked social media trackers, users simply need to open the Tracking Protection Panel window and select the Social Media Trackers option.
Moreover, on specific websites in the Firefox web browser, a notification window will appear to inform users that social media trackers have been blocked. According to the design model, these notification windows will display after users load the social media page, and the new feature must be activated beforehand. However, the notifications will only appear 50% of the time.
Below is an illustrative example of how the notification window will be displayed:
In addition, Firefox is planning to add notification windows for the Enhanced Tracking Protection feature, encompassing Fingerprinting, Cryptominer, and Cross-Site Tracking Cookie. For Fingerprinting and Cryptominer, the notification window will be displayed using similar criteria as mentioned above but will be visible 100% of the time instead of 50%.
The feature blocking social media tracking is currently under testing. It's uncertain whether the feature will be deployed for all users on Firefox 70; we eagerly await the answer in the coming time.
