Accordingly, the new feature named Contextual Feature Recommender, or CFR, will recommend extensions that Mozilla deems useful for users on the websites they visit. Currently, this feature is only available in the Firefox Nightly build and is expected to be deployed to users in the Firefox 63 update.
When the feature is enabled, if users access websites where Mozilla suggests extensions, the Firefox browser will wait until the page loading process is complete and then wait for a few seconds, after which it will display the 'Recommendation' button directly on the browser's address bar. Clicking this button will display a Recommended Extension window containing a brief description of the extension and options to install it.
Firefox suggests browser extensions related to users' accessed websites.
If you close the window or simply don't interact with it for 5 seconds, the window will close and the Recommendation button will change to a small extension icon as shown below. Simply click the button to reopen the recommendation.
Additionally, according to a report by Techdows.com, the feature can also suggest extensions for Facebook, Reddit, and even YouTube.
How to use CFR feature on Firefox browser
To use the CFR feature on your web browser, you first need to download and install Firefox Nightly build. After installation, enter about:config into the browser address bar and accept the terms and risks.
In the about:config window, search for and double-click on the option browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.asrouterExperimentEnabled, then set the value to True.
Finally, close Firefox Nightly and reopen the browser. From now on, when you visit any website, if there are any extensions available, Firefox browser will display recommendations.
Note: The feature is currently in experimental stage, so you may need to refresh webpages multiple times before the browser displays extension recommendations.
