Firefox is collaborating with Have I Been Pwned, a popular website that can check users' emails and notify them whether their important information has been stolen by hackers.
Firefox Quantum will soon mark websites that have been attacked
Troy Hunt, the security expert from Have I Been Pwned, has confirmed that Firefox will soon mark websites that have been attacked and posted a Tweet on Twitter with the message 'great job @mozilla and @haveibeenpwned'
This new security feature is currently in the early stages of development, however, if users want to test it, they can download the add-on from Github, then compile and add it to the Firefox Quantum browser. One thing to note is that this new feature only works on Developer Edition versions
The add-ons are quite basic. If you access websites listed on the blacklist on Have I Been Pwned, you will receive a warning saying: 'you have accessed an attacked website'. However, you can still access the website if you want, the feature only informs you that the website has been attacked
Previously, users could block websites on Firefox with websites listed on the blacklist as harmful, but with websites that have been attacked, users often cannot know in advance and proceed to block websites on Firefox
Hunt and Mozilla are collaborating to develop codes, at this point it's unclear how the feature operates. Responding to Engadget, Hunt said: 'The new Firefox only looks at which websites have been attacked and we are collaborating to develop other ways to use data in the future'
'Hackers have broad access and expose information, Firefox is a great browser to access more about breached data'
If the new feature works correctly it could provide users with useful services, notifying users that they need to change passwords and avoid repeated breaches
Not long ago, Firefox Quantum was released with superior speed, better RAM management, and if Firefox will soon mark websites that have been attacked in the near future, this excellent browser will have the potential to take Google Chrome's number one position. Fast, optimized, good security will surely attract many to choose Firefox Quantum, you can review the news about Firefox Quantum release here
