With the expansion of numerous airlines and flight routes, air travel has become increasingly common in today's life. However, for those flying for the first time, it can be bewildering, not knowing what to prepare for the flight.
There are three essential things first-time passengers need to remember and thoroughly check: flight tickets, check-in procedures, and baggage regulations for both checked and carry-on items.

Flight Tickets
For domestic flights in Vietnam, there are four main airlines: Vietnam Airlines, Jetstar Pacific, Vietjet Air, and Vasco. Vietnam Airlines covers nearly all routes from North to South, serving many provinces and cities nationwide. Vietjet Air and Jetstar Pacific offer competitive prices, while Vasco operates short flights on fixed routes. Passengers can choose any airline that suits their preferences to utilize its services.
Currently, there are two types of tickets: electronic tickets or paper tickets. Basically, both types provide passengers' booking information. When receiving the ticket, passengers need to carefully check the information stated on the ticket, including: passenger's name, flight segment, departure time, flight number, ticket class, and especially the ticket code. If travelers forget their ticket, they must remember the ticket code to proceed with the check-in process at the airport.
Tips for Finding the Best Flight Deals
Check-In Process
After obtaining the flight ticket, the next crucial step is the check-in process. Travelers have two options: check-in at the airport or online.
– Online Check-In: Typically, airlines accept online check-in from 24 hours to 2 hours before the scheduled flight departure. The online check-in process is conducted on the airline's website. This method saves travelers time, as they don't have to arrive at the airport early but must still be there 1 hour before departure, allows for preferred seat selection, although once selected, seats cannot be changed. Online check-in passengers will have a separate queue at the airport, avoiding congestion. However, passengers in areas with no internet connection or those unfamiliar with online check-in should avoid using this method.
– Airport Check-In: Passengers must be present 2 hours before the scheduled departure time at the airport to complete the check-in process. Depending on the airline, passengers queue at the respective check-in counters. Upon their turn, passengers present their ticket code or boarding pass, along with personal identification documents such as ID card, passport, or birth certificate for verification and baggage weighing. Subsequently, passengers receive their Boarding Pass, rendering the flight ticket obsolete. The Boarding Pass contains passenger information, flight details, seat number, boarding time, airport gate, and aircraft exit. Afterward, passengers proceed through customs, enter the waiting lounge, and await boarding announcements.
– Once passengers have their boarding pass, they proceed to the customs control area, then wait at the boarding gate area until the boarding announcement.
Checked Baggage and Carry-On
Checked baggage refers to luggage that passengers are not allowed to carry onto the aircraft and must check in before the flight. Carry-on baggage is luggage that passengers are allowed to bring onto the aircraft. Airlines' websites clearly specify the dimensions of checked and carry-on baggage, the purchase price of baggage, what can and cannot be brought on board, the differences between checked and carry-on baggage for business class and economy class tickets.
Passengers should consult these regulations before packing their luggage to ensure compliance with the airline's rules. Violations may result in penalties imposed by the airline, or even more severe consequences such as refusal to transport improperly packed luggage.
