When your computer is infected with the autorun virus, you may frequently encounter the situation where double-clicking icons or drives prompts the 'Open with' message. How do you resolve this?
Fixing the OpenWith Drive Opening Issue
Method 1:
A virus infiltrates the system causing Windows errors, particularly when double-clicking drive icons leading to the Open With window.
Open My Computer-->Tools-->Folder Options. (You can refer to the article How to Open Folder Options for specific Windows versions for more detailed instructions.)
Here, Mytour guides you to open Folder Options in Windows XP -->>View-->Check -->Option ' Show hidden files and folders' and uncheck the 2 Options ' Hide extensions for known file types' and ' Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) (click Yes to confirm).
Afterwards, go to the root folder of each drive C, D, E... and delete the “Aurorun.inf” file and the RECYCLED folder, also delete the SETUP.exe file (if present)! Then restart your computer and it's OK. If you can't delete the “Autorun.inf” file, go to Run: type Notepad=>enter. Then save it with the name “Autorun.inf” and overwrite it onto drives C, D, E...
Method 2:
If you deselect hidden files and system files, you won't find the autorun.inf file anywhere.
Go to Search--> select all files and folders --> in the filename, type autorun.inf, and select look in as the drive where you're experiencing 'open with ', then select the additional option and mark all (hidden files, system files...).
After completing the search, delete all autorun files and immediately restart your computer. If you see the autorun file automatically recreated during restart, you have to start over. Keep repeating until you no longer see the autorun file, then you've succeeded.
Method 3:
Go to Start ->Run, type cmd and enter.
In the Command window, type the following commands one by one (each line is an enter):
Restart and try accessing drive C, if successful, proceed with the remaining drives one by one (replace C: with D).
