Fixing Bluetooth Not Working on Windows 10
1. Check Bluetooth Service
Step 1: One common reason for Bluetooth not working is the Service not running in the background. To check: Press “Win + R”, type services.msc, then press Enter.
Step 2: The Services window will open, navigate to Bluetooth Support Service. Check if this service is in the “Running” state.
Step 3: If not, right-click on it and select Start. You can optionally set this service to start automatically when Windows starts by right-clicking and selecting “Properties” at the end.
Step 4: When the Properties window appears, in the Startup Type section, select Automatic. Finally, click Apply and OK.
2. Try Uninstalling and Adding Device
If your Bluetooth cannot connect to peripheral devices, this often happens when you reconnect previous devices. In this case, try removing the old device and reconnecting it.
Step 1: Navigate to Control Panel in the Start menu. Then select Devices and Printers.
Step 2: Locate your device, right-click, and choose Remove Device. Then repeat the pairing process.
- Allow devices to find your computer.
- In many cases, although your Bluetooth is functioning properly, you might not be able to discover your PC's Bluetooth device. This happens because you haven't allowed devices to find your PC.
Step 3: To resolve this, open the Devices and Printers window, right-click on it, and select Bluetooth Settings.
Within this window, enable the option “Allow Bluetooth devices to discover this PC”
Step 4: Then click OK to save the settings.
3. Update, Rollback, or Reinstall Bluetooth drivers
While this scenario may not occur frequently, outdated Bluetooth drivers can also cause unstable Bluetooth performance. Easily update, rollback, or uninstall Bluetooth drivers from the Device Manager.
Step 1: Go to Start, type Device Manager. Right-click on Bluetooth and choose Properties.
Step 2: In the Properties window, select the Driver tab. Here, you can easily update, uninstall, or rollback the Bluetooth driver.
4. Try using Windows Hardware Troubleshooter
Step 1: If the above solutions don't work, try using the Troubleshooter tool in Windows. To do this, type Troubleshooter in Start.
Step 2: Then click on Hardware and Sound
Step 3: Next, select Hardware and Devices
If it's a minor issue, the troubleshooting tool will automatically repair and resolve the issues for you.
