Encountering font errors while copying text from PDF to Word is a common issue that almost everyone in an office environment has faced. This article provides some methods to fix font errors when copying from PDF to Word.
1. When copying content from a PDF file to Word, some characters are duplicated
You may notice that some characters in your document are incorrectly replaced with similar characters, such as ?, or characters that are not on the keyboard. To fix this issue, simply use the replace feature for the incorrectly duplicated characters:
Press the key combination Ctrl + H to replace identical errors:
- In the Find what field: Enter the misspelled word.
- In the Replace with: Enter the correct word to replace the misspelled word.
Finally, click Replace All to proceed with replacing and fixing the errors:
The result dialog box notifies the total number of error corrections, click OK:
You have now fixed your document. However, when replacing the correctly written content, be mindful as some words may get replaced inadvertently. You can click Replace Next to check if the character needs replacement or not.
2. Font errors when copying from PDF to Word.
When copying, some words may appear with incorrect fonts. Check if the font is correctly applied. For example, the original font may be .VnTime but is currently set to Times New Roman:

Copy the entire text that needs correction -> right-click on the Unikey icon at the bottom right of the screen, then select Tool or press the shortcut Ctrl + Shift + F6:
The dialog box appears in the character set section as follows:
- Source: select TCVN3(ABC) character set
- Destination: Select Unicode
Click Convert:
The success dialog box appears, click OK. Go back to your document and paste over the old text with the fixed font issues:
