1. Fixing Short or Long Beeping Sounds on Your Computer
Experiencing your computer or laptop making continuous beeping noises can be distressing. Unsure how to handle it? Don't worry, this article will help you understand the causes and solutions!
1. Causes of Continuous Beeping Sounds in Computers and How to Fix Them
Computer Beeping Due to Stuck Keyboard Keys
Dealing with Continuous Beeping Sound During Computer Startup
When you start your computer and it emits continuous beeping sounds, it could be due to a stuck key or keys on the keyboard.

At this point, you need to visually inspect the keyboard to identify where it is stuck and resolve the issue. A stuck keyboard may be caused by dirt or foreign objects falling into it, simply removing them should solve the problem.
Computer Beeping Due to RAM Error
When your computer emits continuous beeping sounds during startup, the screen does not display, and you have to press F1 or follow instructions to boot the system, it may be due to loose RAM pins or dusty RAM.

To fix this, you need to open the computer case, locate and remove the RAM for cleaning, then carefully reinsert it before restarting the system as usual.
Important Note:
- When removing RAM, ensure the computer or laptop is completely powered off. There are latches on both sides of the RAM stick, gently remove these latches to easily take out the RAM stick.
- To clean the RAM stick, lightly rub the contact pins (gold-colored pins) on a white sheet of paper or use an eraser, then gently wipe the contact pins of the RAM stick.
Computer Beeping Due to VGA or Graphics Card Error
When you start your computer but there is no display and it emits continuous beeping sounds, it may be due to the computer overheating from lack of cleaning, the graphics card being dusty, or even damaged.

To resolve this, remove the graphics card and clean it thoroughly, then reinstall it in hopes of fixing the issue. If the computer still cannot boot, you should contact professional repair services.
Periodic Beeping Sounds in Computers: Causes and Solutions
Common guidelines provided by manufacturers for diagnosing computer errors through beep sounds are as follows:
- 1 short beep: Successful system boot-up.
- 1 beep, 2 beeps, 3 beeps: Memory (RAM) error, requires RAM cleaning as instructed above.
- 4 beeps: System clock (Timer) error, to resolve this you need to replace the BIOS battery, which is quite inexpensive, costing only a few tens of thousands.
- 5 beeps: CPU (Central Processing Unit) error, check for dust on CPU contact pins, check CPU thermal paste, and CPU fan operation.
- 6 beeps, 7 beeps: Mainboard error.
- 8 beeps: Graphics card memory error (VGA card).
- 9 beeps, 10 beeps: BIOS error.
- 11 beeps: Cache memory error.
BIOS AWARD Sound Codes:
- 1 short beep: Normal system startup.
- 2 short beeps: Error due to incorrect settings in the system controller (CMOS).
- 1 long beep and 1 short beep: Memory (DRAM) or Mainboard error.
- 1 long beep and 2 short beeps: Error from graphics card (VGA card) or monitor (Monitor).
- 1 long beep and 3 short beeps: Keyboard error.
- 1 long beep and 9 short beeps: BIOS error.
- Continuous long beep: Memory (DRAM) error.
- Continuous short beep: Power supply error.
The Basic Input Output System (BIOS) is a fundamental input-output system program embedded on the motherboard tasked with scanning and identifying hardware during boot-up. It then hands over control to software programs stored on storage devices such as hard drives, CDs, or USB flash drives to load the operating system. There are currently two common types of BIOS chips in use: AWARD and AMI.
