1. Check USB Status in Device Manager
Open the Device Manager using one of the following methods:
Method 1: Go to Start\run.
- Type devmgmt.msc and then press Enter.
Method 2: On the Desktop, right-click on computer and select Manage
Then choose Device Manager. In the main interface of Device Manager, all external USB devices will be displayed in area (2).
If USB Composite Device or USB Root Hub has a black arrow pointing down, it means the device is Disabled. Simply right-click on the icon with the black arrow pointing down and select Enable.
After that, unplug and plug in the USB again.
2. USB Driver Issues or Incorrect Driver Version
- If the USB driver is missing, download the correct driver for your computer and install it, depending on the motherboard brand: Asus, HP, Lenovo, etc.
- If the USB driver has an incorrect version, there will be a yellow exclamation mark (see image below).
Connect to the internet on your computer, then right-click on USB Mass Storage Device, select Update Driver Software...
3. Registry Parameter Modifications
- Go to Start\run, type regedit, and then select OK to access the Registry.
- Navigate to the path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USBTOR.
At USBTOR, double-click on Start, enter the value '3' in the Value data field, and select OK. Then, restart the computer.
