Recently, Mytour has received reports from users stating that after installing a new SSD on their computer, the newly installed drive does not appear in File Explorer.
After opening Disk Management to check, the new SSD does appear, but when right-clicking on the unallocated space for the SSD to partition, all options are grayed out. Later, an error message 'Unknown, not initialized' appears on the screen.
In this article, Mytour will guide you on how to fix the Unknown, Not Initialized error on Windows 10.
Fixing Unknown, Not Initialized Error on Windows 10
Typically, to resolve the Unknown, Not Initialized error on Windows 10, the solution is to initialize the drive.
Note: Before initiating drive initialization, it's important to note that the process will completely erase data. In other words, drive initialization will wipe all data on it. Therefore, if you have important data, consider taking it to service centers or using third-party tools to back up the data before performing initialization.
Drive Initialization
Follow the steps below to initialize a new drive and fix the Unknown, Not Initialized error:
Step 1: Open Disk Management. Right-click on the Unknown, not initialized error message, select Initialize Disk.
Step 2: Now, a Initialize Disk dialog box will appear on the screen. Ensure your drive is selected, then choose the partition style as MBR (Master Boot Record) or GPT (GUID Partition Table), and then click OK to complete the process.
If you're undecided between GPT and MBR, Mytour advises choosing MBR, as you can still convert MBR to GPT if needed.
