How to fix the issue of Google Play Store not opening or downloading apps
1. Check Internet Connection
It's crucial to have a strong and stable internet connection when opening Google Play Store or downloading apps. You can switch from mobile data to Wi-Fi by swiping down from the top of the screen to open Quick Settings, turn off mobile data, and tap on the Wi-Fi icon to enable Wi-Fi, or long-press on it to open network settings, where you can find a list of nearby Wi-Fi networks to search for a better Wi-Fi connection if available.
Alternatively, you can do the reverse. When encountering issues installing apps via Wi-Fi, switch to mobile data and try installing again. Additionally, you should also try turning on and off airplane mode and resetting your router to ensure you have a good internet connection.
2. Restart your device
Restarting your smartphone has been proven to be an effective solution for various issues, and it may also help you fix app download errors on Google Play Store. Each device will have different ways to restart the phone, and below is one of them:
Step 1: Swipe down from the top of the screen to open Quick Settings and tap on the power button icon.
Step 2: Press the Restart option, wait until the device completely shuts down and restarts.
Alternatively, you can long-press the power button on the side of your phone to restart the device.
3. Clear Play Store cache and data
Clearing the app's cache and data helps the app start afresh and sometimes eliminates an invisible glitch. Here are the steps to clear the cache and data of Google Play Store:
Step 1: Open Settings > Apps. In older operating systems, you'll find this option in Settings > Application Manager.
Step 2: Scroll through all the apps and select Google Play Store > Storage.
Step 3: Choose Clear Data and Clear Cache. Tap OK to confirm.
4. Reset Download Manager
After clearing the cache and data of Google Play Store, you may also want to clear data for Download Manager with the following steps:
Step 1: Open Settings > Apps. In older operating systems, you'll find this option in Settings > Application Manager.
Step 2: Tap on the three-dot menu and select Show System Apps.
Step 3: Scroll down and select Download Manager.
Step 4: Tap on Disable and Force Stop to simply turn off this app. This won't affect any information on your device. Finally, press OK to confirm the action.
5. Check date and time settings
While it may seem unrelated, this can often be the cause of Google Play Store issues. It could be because Google's servers are having trouble syncing with your date and time settings. Follow the steps below to change your date and time settings:
Step 1: Open Settings > General Management. In older operating systems, you'll find this option in Settings > Date & Time.
Step 2: Tap on Date and time. Then, ensure you've selected the correct time zone and turned on Automatic date and time.
6. Refresh your Google account
Refreshing your Google account means you remove your Google account and then add it back. This is to see if there's any underlying issue with your account information.
Note: This will erase data from the device synced with your Google account, including messages, photos, contacts... Here's how to do it:
Step 1: Open Settings and select Accounts and backup. In older operating systems, you'll find this option in Settings > Accounts.
Step 2: Choose Accounts > your Google account.
Step 3: Select Remove Account. Depending on the operating system, this option may be located in the three-dot menu button at the top right of the screen.
Then, you can re-add your account from the Accounts menu. Restarting your phone after re-adding the account is not a bad idea.
Alternatively, you can use another account to sign in to Google Play Store. If you don't know how to log in with a Google account on the Play Store, you can find guidance here.

7. Check memory
In some cases, a full memory can cause apps to malfunction. Therefore, check how much free space your mobile device has. Then, proceed to free up storage space by deleting unnecessary apps and data. Here are the steps to check memory:
Step 1: Open Settings > Device Care. In older operating systems, you'll find similar options in a separate app called Smart Manager, however, you can also go to Settings > Storage.
If your memory is too full, you can refer to how to increase memory for your Android phone here.

Step 2: Select Storage and check the available memory. If your smartphone has less than 1 GB of free space, you need to free up storage space.
8. Enable all relevant apps
Step 1: Open Settings > Apps. In older operating systems, you'll find this option in Settings > Application Manager.
Step 2: Tap on the three-dot menu > Show System Apps and press the downward arrow icon.
Step 3: Select Disables to display disabled apps from the drop-down menu.
Step 4: Ensure there are no apps related to Google Play Services or Download Manager in the list of Disabled apps.
