4 significant milestones for Windows users
Flash will be discontinued on Windows by the end of 2020
The process of phasing out Flash is divided into 4 significant milestones, with the first milestone starting later this year and continuing until 2018.
'Microsoft Edge will continue to prompt users to allow Flash on first-time visited websites and will remember user preferences for subsequent visits. During this time, Internet Explorer will still not grant Flash any special access,' according to Microsoft. Therefore, users can still install Flash Player on their devices to experience various entertainment services, listen to music, play games, with 2 installation methods available: Online or Offline.
Next year, Microsoft Edge will receive an update to display notifications and request permission for Flash to run in each session, while Internet Explorer will continue to allow Flash to run on all websites.
The next milestone will take effect from mid to late 2019 when Flash is disabled by default in both browsers, and users will need to manually re-enable Flash.
And the final milestone, Flash will be completely discontinued on Windows by the end of 2020. Meaning users will no longer be able to activate or run Flash in the Edge and Internet Explorer browsers.
