Step 2: In this article, the laptop we used for testing has the setup to press F12 during computer startup, please note to insert the versatile boot USB beforehand. Because that way, the boot list appears, and you can select the USB drive name as shown below.
Guide to Resetting login passwords on Windows 7
Step 1: Insert the Windows 7 installation disc into the computer and select Boot mode to the setup interface, click on Repair your computer
Step 2: Click on Command Prompt in the next window
Step 3: In the Command Prompt window, you enter the command:
copy c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe c:\ and press Enter
copy c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe and press Enter
Step 4: Remove the Windows installation disk, restart the computer. When the Windows login screen appears, press the Shift key 5 times to bring up the command window.
Step 5: Proceed to Reset the computer's login password by entering the command line with the structure
net user name MyNewPassword
Where:
- Username: Account Name
- NewPassword: Your new password
