With the new update, free Teams users will be able to schedule meetings in advance. The app will now allow users to send invitations to others to join a future meeting. Meeting hosts can copy the meeting URL and send it manually or send it through Outlook or Google Calendar.
Microsoft also highlights that there's no time limit on meetings in the free version of Teams - a contrast to Zoom, where the popular online meeting platform limits meetings to 40 minutes for free accounts.

Free Microsoft Teams users receive numerous new features
Microsoft has also announced support for live captioning feature for free Teams users. This feature was announced in March but is now available to all Teams users, including those using the free version. The feature allows users to enable captions throughout the meeting, providing a more comprehensive experience. Live captions are currently available as a preview in US English.
Finally, Microsoft has officially announced the availability of custom backgrounds for Teams users. Alongside the announcement, Microsoft has also shared some interesting backgrounds that Teams users can download and use in their calls. The Redmond giant has also included some LGBTQ+ backgrounds to celebrate Pride Month. These backgrounds will be available on Tuesday, June 16th at microsoft.com/pride.
New feature updates are being rolled out to all free Teams users. The update will be applied automatically and will activate new features for all existing Teams users. In addition to the new additions, Microsoft also provides some features including:
- Unlimited search and chat
- Audio and video calls
- Scheduling meetings
- 10 GB of file storage for teams and 1 GB for individuals
- Ability to use Office web apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote)
- Integration of unlimited apps
Microsoft has recently added a series of requested features to Microsoft Teams including the ability to raise hand to speak, chat in separate windows, and much more.
