Based on discovered reference documents in preview builds and rumors, it's clear that Microsoft is planning to make the 'rounded corner' design language a standard in Windows 10 with the Sun Valley update.
Initial interface changes were inadvertently revealed in screenshots posted by Microsoft in the Tips app for Windows 10. The design prototype was later removed, showcasing the Windows 10 Settings app with a sleeker interface and rounded corners, as seen in the screenshot below.
A now-deleted tweet from a Microsoft employee hinted that it seems the Windows Terminal app now also features rounded corners.
At present, it's unclear whether this change is exclusive to Terminal builds or if it's a bug. According to previous reports, some native apps (including Terminal) might have rounded corners with the Windows 10 Sun Valley update that has been long rumored.
Remember, screenshots/mockups of designs floating around or found in official apps don't necessarily mean the company will go in that direction as plans can always change.
However, it's a promising sign that Microsoft is serious about the new interface design, especially evident when you consider the design models published by Microsoft developers for WinUI 3 apps.
According to numerous leaks and reports, a major design update for Windows 10 codenamed 'Sun Valley' is set to release in the second half of 2021. Based on Microsoft's to-do list, the company is focusing on 'refreshing the Windows interface' and native Windows 10 apps.
