The name making waves in this tale is The Finals - a game just introduced at The Game Awards.
At The Game Awards recently, alongside the well-deserved accolades for nominees, one of the most anticipated aspects was the unveiling of new projects. Most notably, The Finals took the spotlight as it debuted during the ceremony. Developed by former creators of the Battlefield franchise, fresh off a relatively successful open beta that attracted hundreds of thousands of players, The Finals seems to have a bright future ahead.

Initially, everything seemed to be going smoothly, and The Finals itself performed admirably with a peak of over 200,000 players simultaneously, solely on the PC platform. However, a significant issue arose that led to severe criticism and over 3,000 negative reviews on Steam shortly after its release, plunging developer Embark Studios into a challenging situation. The reason cited is that many believe the developers intentionally slowed down character movements in this official release.

As per player feedback, while everything ran smoothly in the beta version, the official release presents a different picture. The movement speed of all character classes has been drastically reduced, causing delays in certain animations. Even when selecting the fastest class, players still experience heaviness and sluggishness. This has prompted numerous calls for Embark Studios to revert to the original pace seen in the beta version. Interestingly, the leadership of this development studio admits to making no changes to the speed and is puzzled by the origin of these criticisms.

Currently, Embark Studios is still striving to resolve the issue. Some suggest that minor adjustments to animations, sound, and settings may have led to the situation mentioned above. It remains to be seen whether this developer will release new patches, but at present, the future of The Finals looks bleak amidst the negative reviews on Steam.
