Fullmetal Alchemist, created by Hiromi Arakawa in 2001, remains one of the most renowned manga series to date. Arakawa's work was first adapted into an anime in 2003. This anime was produced before the completion of the manga and achieved significant commercial success, albeit criticized for deviating greatly from the original manga. The second anime, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, was produced in 2009. The second series is a much more faithful adaptation of the manga and is widely regarded as the most successful adaptation of the franchise.
Fullmetal Alchemist: The Avenger Scar is scheduled for release in Japan on May 20, while The Last Transmutation will premiere in this country on June 24. The first film in the trilogy of live-action adaptations was released in 2017 and was exclusively distributed worldwide by Netflix.
