(Homeland) - Gen.G secured a relatively straightforward victory against G2 Esports in the MSI 2023 Knockout Stage.
On May 9th, the Knockout Stage of MSI 2023 officially commenced with the match between Gen.G and G2 Esports (G2). The reigning LCK Spring 2023 champions demonstrated overwhelming strength against the LEC representatives, defeating them 3-1 overall. Gen.G completely outplayed G2 in terms of movement and team composition execution.

After the match, Gen.G faced numerous inquiries about draft strategies against G2. Despite G2's reputation for various tactics and interesting picks in major tournaments, Gen.G believed G2 was not as unpredictable as anticipated.
“Honestly, I was quite apprehensive before facing G2 Esports. They are renowned for unpredictable strategies, and we prepared various approaches. However, they didn't showcase that when facing us. Perhaps G2 exhausted their strategies, and their only effective tactic was Mid Lane Nautilus,” - Peanut from Gen.G shared.

In reality, during the match against Gen.G, G2 attempted to utilize champions like Darius and Aurelion Sol to surprise their opponents. However, Gen.G seemed well-prepared for these scenarios, effectively countering Darius and Aurelion Sol. As a result, G2 often found themselves in a passive position, leading to defeat as Gen.G controlled the game more effectively.

Certainly, this defeat is not the end for G2 in their journey at MSI 2023. They still have the opportunity for redemption in the lower bracket in the upcoming matches. However, G2 needs genuinely effective new strategies if they want to advance further in this tournament.
