The Gen.G - KT match fails to live up to the fans' expectations of excitement.
On 08/04 (Vietnam time), the deciding match in the losing bracket between Gen.G and KT Rolster took place. It not only determined the team entering the LCK Spring 2023 finals against T1 but also secured the last spot for MSI 2023. Both teams displayed determination, especially Gen.G, facing doubts about their ability to defend the LCK throne.
However, KT couldn't replicate their previous challenges to T1. Perhaps the intense battles against T1 or the victory over Hanwha Life Esports drained Bdd and teammates. KT only surprised in the first match with their familiar aggressive playstyle. Yet, in the remaining 3 matches, Gen.G forced KT to play slowly, capitalizing on every small mistake to secure victories. Gen.G is the second LCK representative at the upcoming MSI 2023.
On his personal Twitter page, Caedrel - an expert and League of Legends commentator - bluntly stated: 'One of the best defensive teams globally, heavy on draft bans, slow game pace, no risky decisions, exploiting opponent errors, sticking to strategies... A boring match, but the job is done'.
Indeed, due to the survival nature of the match, both teams appeared quite cautious. Even in the first match, when KT played aggressively, the kill count and major clashes were not abundant. Moreover, both teams are known for sticking to strategies, lacking the usual unpredictability seen in T1. This has been mentioned as a reason for Gen.G and KT's losses against T1.
On 09/04, Gen.G faces off against T1 in the LCK Spring 2023 finals, marking the culmination of the season. Few are optimistic about Gen.G's chances of victory, especially with Chovy and teammates still displaying notable weaknesses. When it comes to capitalizing on opponents' mistakes, T1 stands on equal footing with any team in the League of Legends community.
