This information was shared by journalist Mark Gurman in the latest Power On newsletter. Sources indicate that at least one Apple Watch model will have an updated design next year, possibly the long-rumored Apple Watch X.
Introducing the Apple Watch Series 9.In previous reports, Gurman mentioned that Apple is working on a significant update to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Apple Watch's launch. For those who may not remember, the Apple Watch was announced in September 2014. Therefore, sources suggest that the 10th-anniversary edition of the Apple Watch X will appear in 2024 or 2025 with a host of impressive upgrades.
The updated Apple Watch may feature a slimmer design as well as a new magnetic mechanism for strap connections. Additionally, the addition of health features may be more appealing to customers. Gurman suggests that we can expect the next-generation Apple Watch to detect elevated blood pressure and sleep apnea, conditions that affect millions.
Elevated blood pressure will be detected through wrist-based blood pressure monitoring, marking a notable technological achievement. Gurman mentioned in November that Apple Watch will be able to inform wearers if their blood pressure is trending upwards so they can report detection results to healthcare professionals, although it won't provide specific systolic and diastolic readings.
Sleep apnea will be detected through sleep tracking and breathing patterns, allowing users to know if this condition is present. Detecting sleep apnea typically requires overnight sleep studies at sleep clinics, so Apple Watch may alleviate some of the difficulties in diagnosis.
Apple refreshes the Apple Watch annually, so we can expect the new model to debut around September 2024 alongside the Series 16 lineup.
