Microsoft's Creative Director, Adam Isgreen, admits they took more time than initially planned to release Age of Empires: Definitive Edition for players. “We invested time in building essential features such as attack-movement and improving the accuracy of the minimap. We hope players will be pleased with these enhancements.”
Prepare for the debut of Age of Empires: Definitive Edition on February 20th.
Explore the changes in the Definitive Edition compared to the original version:
- Graphics have been enhanced with 4K visuals.
- Engage in online play through Xbox Live (beyond LAN play).
- Original audio has been revamped.
- Each campaign for a specific mission.
- Advanced campaigns and script editing allow the creation of custom campaigns.
Unfortunately, the game is not available on Steam or GoG but can only be found on the Microsoft Store for Windows 10, priced at $19.99. Pre-orders are now open.
Currently, you can still download the AOE game, also known as the Empire game, to play offline or online with friends. Mytour has detailed guides on playing empire online in their previous tutorials.
The multiplayer beta version is set to launch on January 29th. Enthusiasts can register through the official Age of Empires website. Players need to sign up for the AoE Insider program and must have an Xbox Live account.
Today, Microsoft has also released Windows 10 build 16299.201 and 10586.1358, addressing issues faced by AMD computers such as inability to boot after the previous update, as well as resolving various other system issues.
