It may sound easy, but this marks the first time Apple has incorporated dual SIM functionality into their products. So, if you plan to make a purchase in the future, make sure to read the guide on using dual SIM for iPhone Xr and iPhone Xs Max right here:
+ The iPhone with dual SIM comes in two versions for different markets, including:
- iPhone with dual SIM (physical): Exclusively for the China, Hong Kong, and Macau markets.
- iPhone with dual SIM (1 physical SIM, 1 eSIM): For all other markets.
The dual SIM feature (physical) is only available for iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR. Both SIMs operate on the 1,800 MHz frequency and can be used in Vietnam. The iPhone XS, on the other hand, has only one version with dual SIM (1 physical SIM, 1 eSIM).
Getting Acquainted with Using Dual SIM on iPhone Xr and iPhone Xs Max
According to Apple, having dual SIMs on the iPhone makes it easier for users to separate work and personal tasks. For instance, SIM 1 can be used for calls and texts, while SIM 2 is dedicated to accessing 3G/4G networks. Importantly, both SIMs can be inserted into the same SIM slot, meaning one SIM is placed on top and the other underneath. This clever arrangement simplifies SIM insertion compared to traditional SIM slots on older iPhone models.

When setting up SIM usage modes, Apple provides various options for purposes such as personal use, work, data, and travel.
During a call, the iPhone with dual SIMs will remember which SIM (number) you used for the previous call and prioritize calls on that number. Users can also easily switch to calling from the other SIM.
Apple also offers two additional options: Primary SIM and Secondary SIM. The Primary SIM takes priority for making calls, sending SMS, accessing networks, iMessage, and FaceTime. Meanwhile, the Secondary SIM is only used for calls and texts.
You can choose which SIM has network access rights by accessing: Settings > Mobile Data > Mobile Data, and then selecting the necessary SIM.
The dual SIM signal icons on iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR look quite distinctive; you need to pay close attention to notice that they are two different icons.
While it may sound new and unfamiliar, you'll easily get accustomed to and proficiently use the dual SIM feature on iPhone Xr and iPhone Xs Max after just a few days of using it.
