Thanks to Eclipse's streamlined installation process, getting started with Eclipse is now easier than ever. The Eclipse installer for Windows, macOS, and Linux now comes bundled with a JRE, allowing you to launch Eclipse in minutes without the need to install Java separately. This Mytour guide will walk you through the process of installing Eclipse on your PC or Mac, and how to locate and open Eclipse once it's installed.
Steps

Visit https://www.eclipse.org/downloads/packages/installer using a web browser. This is the official download page for Eclipse.
- If you already have Eclipse installed but are unsure how to launch it, proceed to step 7 to learn how!

Click the orange Download button. You'll find it on the right side of the page under 'Get Eclipse IDE 2021-09.' This will download the latest Eclipse installer, which includes all the necessary libraries for Java development.
- During installation, you'll also have the option to install additional tools such as those for PHP, C, C++, and more.
- The version number may vary slightly with each update.

Initiate Eclipse installation by double-clicking the Eclipse installer. Look for the file starting with eclipse-inst.
- For Linux users, unzip the downloaded file to access the installer. Execute tar -xvf eclipse-inst-jre-linux64.tar.gz (adjust filename if necessary) and press Enter or Return. Then, navigate to the new directory named eclipse-installer and execute the file named eclipse-inst.
- Depending on your system, you may need to grant permissions for the installer to run.

Choose a package for installation. Each package offers different tools and libraries for various programming languages. To view the contents of each package, click its name followed by Details.

Select the installation directory. The default directory (your user directory) suits most users. Mac and Linux users should take note of the installation location since Eclipse won't be automatically added to the applications menu. You'll need to navigate to this directory to locate and launch Eclipse after installation.
- If you're upgrading a non-default installation, select that location instead.

Click INSTALL to proceed with Eclipse installation. This action installs Eclipse along with all associated tools and libraries to the default location.
- You'll need to accept the terms before installation begins.

Launch Eclipse after installation. You can either click Launch within the installer to start Eclipse immediately, or launch it as you would in the future:
- For Windows users, access Eclipse through the Start menu.
- Mac users should navigate to the Eclipse installation folder in Finder and double-click the Eclipse app to open it.
- Linux users can locate the Eclipse installation directory in their file manager and double-click the eclipse app to launch it.
Useful Tips
-
To rename workspaces manually, rename the workspace folder outside of Eclipse. Then, switch workspaces within Eclipse and choose your newly renamed workspace. Eclipse will handle the change automatically.
