More than 100 young people from Quang Binh joined hands to light up the figure 103 with candles at Vung Chua – Yen Island, the resting place of General Vo Nguyen Giap.

A memorial service for the 49th day since the passing of General Vo Nguyen Giap took place on the evening of November 23, at Vung Chua – Yen Island, Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province. This is the first candle-lit memorial service held at the resting place of the General.

135 participants, mostly young people, officials, and youth cadres from Quang Binh province, attended. Additionally, many residents from other provinces and cities, upon hearing about the event, did not hesitate to travel long distances to participate.

Some young children were brought by their parents to pay tribute to 'Uncle Giap'. There were families spanning three generations who came together to Vung Chua.

The candle lighting ceremony took place in the chilly weather of Quang Binh during the early days of winter. The incessant rain from early morning stopped just as the candles began to illuminate the tranquil hilltop.

More than 100 individuals dressed in white uniforms with black collars. The front of the uniforms depicts the smiling portrait of the General.

“Quang Binh is my home, whenever I have free time, I return home,” General Giap's words are solemnly printed on the back of the uniforms.

The visitation ceremony commenced at 6 p.m. A group of people formed two lines holding candles, circling up the hill. The elongated candles illuminated and warmed Vung Chua in the darkness of the night.

The group then halted at the wooden staircase in front of the tomb, where thousands of flowers brought by the people adorned the General's resting place.

All quietly gazed towards the resting place of the national hero. Many young individuals, though never having met him, couldn't hold back their tears.

Mr. Duong Danh Phan, coming from Ho Chi Minh City to Quang Binh, wore a shirt with the serial number 103, representing the age of the General.

The commemoration ceremony concluded as the glowing candles were arranged into the meaningful figure 103.

The participants fervently prayed that this would be the light to connect generations, joining hands to build our homeland, as the General had envisioned during his lifetime.
