Google has announced several new features for tools in Google Workspace, formerly known as G Suite. These enhancements will come to Gmail, Google Docs, and Sheets. The new features are starting to roll out.
Specifically, a noteworthy improvement regarding Gmail allows users to edit Microsoft Office files directly within Gmail without converting them to Google Docs format. While this editing capability has been available for some time, users previously had to open Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides to access the specific file they wanted to edit. Now, you can open Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files directly from Gmail and make edits without the need for file format conversion.
Furthermore, Google is enhancing support for new formatting options in Docs. For instance, you can create Docs documents or edit Word files with a combination of both landscape and portrait orientations. In the coming year, the company will also introduce the ability to insert images behind text and add watermarks.
Finally, there's a new feature for Excel users - the Macro Converter add-on. If you frequently use Excel macros and want to work with them in Google Sheets, this add-on can help you convert VBA code within Excel macros into Apps Script, used by Google's tool. You can install the add-on from the Google Workspace Marketplace.
