Currently, Google is implementing a similar function for Gmail on Android. While composing an email, you can add a recipient by using the '+' or '@' icon followed by the recipient's name. A dropdown menu will open with a list of contacts based on what you've entered. Removing the '+' or '@' before the contact's name will also remove them from the email's recipient list.
Although a simple shortcut, it makes adding email recipients while composing messages easier. The feature is now available to G Suite customers and may not be immediately accessible to all users as it hasn't been widely deployed yet.
