Google launched a major overhaul for Gmail for G Suite (now Google Workspace) last year, aiming to consolidate video, chat, email, files, and tasks into a single area. The integrated workspace experience allows access to chat conversations within an organization, as well as shared files and tasks, more conveniently.
Google has recently announced a new update for the Chat and Rooms service for Gmail on the web, allowing you to adjust the size of the Chat and Rooms section in the left navigation bar of Gmail.
To resize the Chat and Rooms section in Gmail, simply click and drag the header up or down to shrink or expand the corresponding section as desired. It works similarly to resizing Hangouts widgets.
The newly added capability may not be the major change you're looking for, but it makes the Gmail web interface a bit more flexible and user-friendly.
Google states that this new feature has reached customers of Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus. Users on Basic, Business, Education, Enterprise for Education, or Nonprofits versions of G Suite will also be able to resize the Chat and Rooms section in the coming days.
